Competences of town
The town is an independent territorial unit of the Slovak Republic with separate government and administration. It associates citizens having permanent residence in its territory. The town is competent to make independent decisions and perform any acts related to the administration of town and its property, and to execute all such self-governing competences which are assigned to the town under a separate law, unless such acts should be performed by the state or another legal entity or natural person under the law.
Municipal bodies include: Mayor and Municipal Parliament. Mayor represents the town and is its supreme executive body. Municipal Parliament is competent to establish, when necessary, standing or temporary executive, supervisory and advisory bodies, namely: Municipal Council, commissions, Municipal Police and other executive and supervisory bodies and divisions and to assign them work tasks.
The Municipal Office is an executive body of the Municipal Parliament and Mayor. The Municipal Office conducts organization and administrative affairs of the Municipal Parliament and Mayor, as well as bodies established by the Municipal Parliament. Its chairman conducts and organizes work of the Municipal Office.
