Ing. Anton DANKO, Hviezdoslavova 4052/63, 058 01 Poprad
Anton Danko was born on February 14, 1959 in Krompachy. He is married, father of three children (Anton, Dávid, Dominik).
In 1978 he passed the school-leaving examination at the Secondary Technical School of Machinery Engineering in Poprad. Then he studied at the Mining Faculty of the Technical University of Košice where he graduated in 1982 and was awarded an academic degree of “inžinier” in the branch of Mining Engineering. He supplemented his university education at the City University of Bratislava were he studied in 1992-1993, and graduated in the branch of “effective manager”.
As specialist in surface mining of commercial resources, he commenced his career in 1984 with the Company of Východoslovenské kameňolomy a štrkopiesky of Batizovce. He ran the said Company in the position of director in 1988 and 1989. From 1989 he was a director of the Sports Facilities Management of the town of Poprad.
Anton Danko has also been active in his public-political life. In 1999-2002 he executed the office of Poprad Vice-Mayor. In 2002-2006 he was elected a Member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. In 2003 the Poprad citizens elected him their Mayor, and since 2007 he has been in this office for the second election period.
He is a devoted hockey fun, having been actively engaged in this game – first as player and later as successful referee. He was declared the best referee of the former Czechoslovak Republic for three times, after division of the Czechoslovak Republic he was declared the best Slovakia referee several times. For the last ten years of his active hockey career he also worked as international referee, participating in lots of international and inter-state hockey matches. His referee career culminated in his participation in the Fifth World Senior Championship in 1994 in Italy, where it was his honour to be a referee during the final match of Canada : Finland.
